All about ready-mixed concrete

Ready-mixed concrete: what is it?

Also called ready-mixed concrete, it designates fresh concrete prepared in a plant. Thus, it is delivered directly to the site by a mixer truck. It should not be confused with concrete made on site by workers using cement, aggregates and water.

What sets it apart is its central manufacturing. On the one hand, it allows the concrete to meet strict standards. On the other hand, it adapts with rigor to a diversified demand (for example by producing concrete offering different grades of resistance, delayed setting, self-placing, colored, etc.).

At Premix, these specificities are at the heart of our ready-mixed concrete offer. It is made up of three ranges, each meeting specific needs:

Les Classiques :

Ranging from grade 15 to grade 50, this is our range of standard quality concretes, suitable for most sites.

Les Pro Series :

Designed to meet targeted expectations, these special concretes with technical advantages are flexible alternatives to conventional concretes.

Les Esthétiques :

Our palette of decorative concretes is designed to bring your creative ideas to life, inside and out.

In addition, our raw materials (cement, aggregates) and our Les Classiques and Les Pro Series ranges are British standardized.
Standard (BS) and European Norm (EN) to meet the most stringent requirements. The decorative concretes, being applied
on a platform, are not subject to standards.

How is ready-mixed concrete made?

It is dosed and mixed in a concrete plant according to the needs of the site. In general, concrete is a mix between cement, water
and aggregates in varying proportions depending on the expected result.

During mixing, the plant incorporates additives. Indeed, they make it possible to reinforce certain specificities of the concrete and
to obtain specific mixtures. This will influence, for example, its mechanical resistance, its rheology, its setting (accelerated
or delayed)…

Once ready, it is poured into mixer trucks which will transport it to the construction site. It will then be cast,
pumped or poured into molds or forms as required. Premix also has trained teams – sub-
contractors or partners responsible for placing concrete on site.

The advantages of ready-mixed concrete

The advantages of this type of concrete are numerous. They are essentially based on three aspects: economy, quality and
speed of service. Here is the detail:

Saving time on site:

By avoiding the storage of raw materials on site, the construction site is more malleable and reactive.

A real saving:

The alternative to ready-mixed concrete is the concrete mixer. But this technique, in addition to being expensive, is also time-consuming and energy-intensive! In addition to the purchase or rental of a concrete mixer, the desired quantity must be anticipated. It is also necessary to hire a workforce dedicated to its production. Laborious work and direct and indirect costs to anticipate.

Uncompromising quality:

It is manufactured according to strict standards and dosages. Thus, ready-mixed concrete offers constant quality, but also a wide variety of ranges designed to adapt to all the specific needs of a construction site.
